Michael Oher sues Tuohy family of The Blind Side

Former NFL lineman Michael Oher filed a petition on Monday against Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, who took him in when he was in high school. The petition asks the probate court to end his conservatorship under them, and that the Tuohys be sanctioned and be forced to pay compensatory and punitive damages. According to the petition, Oher said he was misled into thinking he was signing adoption papers when he was signing papers for a conservatorship. He said he only found out he wasn’t adopted early this year. Oher also alleges that he was misinformed about signing an agreement about the rights to his life story and that he was unfairly compensated for the movie The Blind Side. In a Tuesday statement to media, the Tuohys said Oher's filing was "hurtful" and part of a shakedown attempt.

How does a conservatorship work? A conservatorship is a court-ordered decision that puts one person over another’s legal affairs and decisions—typically for those who are incapable of making their own decisions. Other famous people who have been under conservatorship include Britney Spears and Joni Mitchell.
