Manhunt in U.K. for escaped terror suspect
Ex-soldier and alleged terrorist Daniel Khalife escaped prison in south London Wednesday morning, leading to a nationwide manhunt. Khalife is accused of planting fake bombs on a military base during his time as a soldier. He was being held at Wandsworth Prison pending trial when he escaped. Authorities have implemented heavy travel checks at airports. They described the 21-year-old as 6 feet, 2 inches tall and last seen wearing a white T-shirt with red and white checkered pants.
How did Khalife escape? British Justice Minister Justin Chalk said Khalife escaped while working in the prison kitchen by strapping himself to the bottom of a truck delivering food. Chalk briefed parliament on the escape Thursday and said “no stone must be left unturned” when discovering what happened to Khalife. An independent investigation will determine who is at fault for Khalife’s escape and if anyone in the prison aided his flight.
