Man charged in Wisconsin river stabbings
Police charged Nicolae Miu, 52, on Tuesday with stabbing one teenager to death and wounding four other people while they were tubing about 25 miles outside of Minneapolis. Police said the fight began when a bystander accused Miu of approaching children in the water. Miu told police he had been looking for his lost cellphone in the river with goggles and a snorkel. Witnesses said he was bothering a group of teenagers and when they asked him to leave, he punched a woman, starting the altercation. Miu said he reacted in self-defense to an attack.
Who were the victims? The family of the teenager who died identified him as Isaac Schuman, 17, from Luck, Wis. They said he was just about to start his senior year of high school. The four wounded included one 20-year-old man, two 22-year-old men, and one 24-year-old woman.
