Malala returns to Pakistan
Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai on Thursday arrived in her home country, Pakistan, for the first time since the Taliban shot her in the head in 2012 for advocating for education for girls. Yousafzai, now 20 years old, arrived in Islamabad, the capital city, with her father, brother, and heavy security. She met with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi before delivering a brief televised speech in which she vowed to continue the campaign to ensure girls receive education. “It’s the happiest day of my life,” Yousafzai said. “I still can’t believe it’s happening.” Following her attack, Yousafzai underwent treatment in Britain and went to school as she continued her advocacy. She set up the Malala Fund, which used $6 million to provide uniforms and books for schoolchildren.
