Watch King Charles’ coronation

On Wednesday, hundreds of members of the United Kingdom’s armed forces participated in a rehearsal for the upcoming coronation of King Charles III and The Queen Consort. More than 6,000 men and women will participate in Saturday’s procession leading to the ceremony in Westminster Abbey. About 2,000 guests plan to attend the ceremony, and thousands will travel to London to celebrate the event.

What is the history of the coronation? King Charles’ coronation will be the first coronation ceremony since his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was crowned in 1953. British monarchs have been crowned in Westminster Abbey for the last 900 years. The Archbishop of Canterbury leads the ceremony on behalf of the Church of England.
