Lochte’s wild night becomes international spectacle

Brazilian authorities pulled two American Olympic swimmers off of an airplane and barred them from leaving the country while police investigate an incident involving them and swimmer Ryan Lochte. The men originally claimed they were robbed Sunday night at gunpoint at a gas station in Rio de Janeiro, but Civil Police Chief Fernando Veloso disputed their story. Veloso said Lochte and three other American swimmers kicked down a bathroom door and tore down a soap dispenser in the gas station bathroom while they were drunk. Lochte, who admitted to police he was intoxicated during the incident, returned to the United States on Tuesday. Swimmers Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz have been released but must stay in Rio for now. The fourth swimmer involved, Jimmy Feigen, also remains in Brazil.
