Letter bombs sent to Ukrainian, U.S. embassies in Spain

Spanish police said Thursday they detonated a suspicious parcel at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid. The detonation comes a day after another parcel exploded at the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid and injured one employee. It’s roughly a week since Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez received a similar package. The American Embassy said they were aware of several incidents of other suspicious packages arriving at other locations in Spain.

What’s going on? Who’s behind this? Spanish Secretary of State for Security Rafael Perez said Thursday that authorities believed the packages originated from within Spain. He noted that it is early in the investigation, and police don’t want to rush to conclusions.
