Last baby orca born at SeaWorld dies

SeaWorld announced Monday that the last killer whale born in captivity at its parks died of pneumonia over the weekend. The waterpark stopped breeding orcas in 2016 after receiving widespread criticism of its treatment of the animals. Kyara was conceived before the program ended. The park said in a statement its staff worked tirelessly to treat the young whale before it succumbed to illness. Pneumonia is the most common cause of death of orcas and dolphins both in the wild and captivity, according to SeaWorld.
