Kenyan judge revokes opposition leader’s deportation

A Kenyan judge on Thursday rescinded the Kenyan government’s order to deport an opposition politician over his participation in the mock inauguration of opposition leader Raila Odinga. Earlier this month, the Kenyan government sent dual Kenyan-Canadian citizen Miguna Miguna to Canada after holding him for days in a detention center. Miguna attended last month’s mock inauguration, during which Odinga took an oath as the “people’s president” to protest President Uhuru Kenyatta’s leadership. The opposition has argued the ruling party manipulated last year’s presidential election that returned Kenyatta to power. Judge Luka Kimaru revoked the deportation demand and ordered the Kenyan government to return Miguna’s confiscated passport.
