In her Oscar preview, Megan Basham looks at the hypocrisy of Hollywood, noting, “It would be easier to give Hollywood the benefit of the doubt in its unrestrained depictions of sex, drugs, and violence … were the industry not often high-handed and rigid in its own moralizing.” WORLD has reviewed these Best Picture nominees: American Hustle,Captain Phillips, Gravity, Philomena, and 12 Years a Slave. The Oscars this year have already stirred controversy for their un-nomination of the song “Alone Yet Not Alone” from the independent Christian film of the same name.
