Israel strikes suspected Hezbollah sites after alleged ceasefire violations
The Israel Defense Forces says it launched a successful strike on Thursday against Hezbollah over ceasefire violations by the Lebanese terror group. The IDF hit several weapons storage facilities in southern Lebanon, along with other terror infrastructure, according to a Thursday statement. The terror group's activity at the sites violates the peace agreement with Israel, the IDF added.
The IDF described its strikes as retaliatory in a separate Thursday morning statement and warned residents to evacuate. These are only the latest strikes against Hezbollah and Hamas in recent weeks over alleged ceasefire violations. Israeli forces also struck what officials said were underground weapons storage facilities for Hezbollah and several military sites in the same region on Sunday. The IDF also carried out strikes last Friday against several weapons storage and production facilities, as well as military structures and rocket launchers.
What kind of ceasefire violations did Hezbollah allegedly commit? IDF spokesman Avichay Adraee cited Hezbollah’s alleged remilitarization and weapons stockpiles as a violation of its peace agreement. Israeli officials also cited what they said was a string of recent ceasefire violations from Hamas terrorists. Recent IDF statements within the last week documented soldiers’ exchange of fire with terrorists illegally crossing the brokered border, firing on terrorists attempting to steal IDF equipment, and locating loaded rocket launchers.
