Israel closes border crossing with Egypt over terror fears
Israel has closed a border crossing to Egypt and increased security in the area after threats of terror attacks during Passover, which begins today at sunset. The Taba border crossing to the Sinai Peninsula closed for fears of an imminent militant attack there. Israel urged its citizens to leave Egypt and to cancel plans to travel to Sinai, a popular destination during the holiday. Not long after the warning went out, a rocket fired from Sinai hit southern Israel. No one was hurt, and Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack. ISIS bombed two Coptic Christian churches in Egypt as worshippers celebrated Palm Sunday this weekend. Israel said that because ISIS is losing ground in Iraq and Syria, the group has renewed “motivation to carry out terror attacks in different arenas at this time.”
