Israel accused of missile strike on Iranian embassy in Syria

The Monday attack on Iran’s embassy in Damascus killed seven Iranian advisers and leaders, according to a report by the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The group alleges that Israel struck the building, killing Iranian Revolutionary Guard Commander for Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria Mohammad Reza Zahedi. The attack also killed Brigadier General Hussein Amir Allah and other individuals. Iranian state media also reported that Israeli missiles struck the embassy and said at least eight people had been killed. The Israel Defense Forces on Monday declined to comment on the incident, telling news agencies that it doesn’t comment on foreign reports.

Why would Israel have attacked Iran? An Iranian-manufactured and Iranian-directed drone struck an Israeli naval port at Eliat on Sunday night, according to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces spokesman for Arab media Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee. The attack caused only minor damage and no injuries. The IDF is investigating the alleged attack by Iran.
