Islamic State group commander killed in U.S. drone strike

Senior Islamic State group leader Khalid Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri was killed in a drone strike Monday in northwestern Syria. The attack was carried out by a United States-led coalition in Syria and is the latest strike by the U.S. military to kill a top official in the extremist group. Jabouri was responsible for planning terrorist attacks in Europe and Turkey, and his death will “temporarily disrupt the organization’s ability to plot external attacks, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement. The man was the only person killed in the strike and no civilians were injured, according to the U.S. Central Command.

Where does the group launch attacks today? Though the Islamic State group in 2019 lost the last of the land it once controlled, the terrorist organization still launches attacks in Syria and Iraq. A United States drone strike in February killed two operatives in the al-Qaeda-linked group.
