ISIS horror: 89 mass graves found in Iraq, Syria
The Associated Press has documented 72 mass graves in Iraq and 17 in Syria, filled by brutal Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists before they were ousted from territory they planned to turn into a caliphate. The graves could contain as many as 15,000 victims. And human rights groups expect to find more as ISIS loses its hold on more territory. Some sites are roped off, waiting for exhumation and identification of victims. Others are marked just by bare patches of earth. Investigators are using satellite images to help discover the sites, with witness accounts providing the potential number of victims contained in each. Human rights groups say marking and excavating the graves is important to help prove a genocide case against ISIS, although it’s doubtful many of the militants will ever stand trial for their crimes.
