ISIS claims deadly Russian church shooting

A gunman on Sunday killed five people and injured four others when he opened fire on churchgoers as they left a service in the predominantly Muslim southern province of Dagestan, Russia. Police officials who responded to the attack in the city of Kizlyar shot and killed the gunman. Russian regional Interior Ministry spokesman Ruslan Gadzhiibragimov identified the gunman as a local resident and said authorities detained his wife for questioning. The TASS Russian News Agency said security forces who responded to the attack found the gunman with a hunting rifle, bullets, and a knife. Islamic State militants claimed responsibility for the attack in an unverified report, saying a Muslim fighter attacked a “Christian temple” in Kizlyar.
