Days after school shooting, Iowa principal dies from injuries

Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger died on Sunday morning from injuries he received earlier this month while protecting students during a mass shooting. Marburger’s wife, Elizabeth, confirmed the principal's death on their GoFundMe account, writing, “He fought hard and gave us 10 days that we will treasure forever.” Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds released a statement praising Marburger for “his selfless and heroic actions” and ordered all flags fly at half-staff until Marburger’s funeral and internment.

Who else was injured during the shooting? A sixth-grade student was killed during the shooting, and four other students were injured. Police believe 17-year-old Dylan Butler was the shooter. Butler was found dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He had armed himself with a pump action shotgun and a small caliber handgun. Law enforcement also found an improvised explosive device, or IED, after searching the school. They safely disarmed the device.
