Iowa governor calls lawmakers for special pro-life session
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds on Wednesday called a special session for Iowa lawmakers to enact legal protections for the unborn against abortion. That effort comes after a three-to-three vote by the Iowa Supreme Court last month ended any possibility of enforcing a heartbeat law. Reynolds signed the heartbeat law in 2018, although courts never allowed it to take effect. An earlier-passed law protecting the unborn after five months of gestation remains in effect. Reynolds will convene a General Assembly of Iowa on July 11, aiming to pass legislation that “protects unborn lives.”

The groups collected over 700,000 signatures and presented them to Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, who will decide if the amendment will be voted on in the state elections this fall.
