Illegal immigrant faces multiple charges after fatal crash
Federal and state prosecutors have charged an illegal immigrant in a fatal drunken driving crash that killed an NFL player and an Uber driver Sunday in Indianapolis. Manuel Orrego-Savala, a Guatamalan national who has been deported twice, faces felony charges in the deaths of Jeffrey Monroe and Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson. Should Orrego-Savala post bail on those charges, federal authorities stand ready to apprehend him for illegal reentry into the United States. “If he’s able to make bond, the federal immigration authorities will take custody of him,” Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine said. “We don’t want this guy to slip away. We want to make sure that he has to stand and face the accounts of what he did.” Orrego-Savala had a 2005 conviction for driving under the influence in Redwood City, Calif., and numerous other misdemeanor convictions and arrests, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Nicole Alberico. President Donald Trump referenced the deadly crash in a tweet Tuesday calling for speedy immigration reform.
