It was a case of mug shot inception in Madison, Maine, when a man wore something special to his jail booking: a T-shirt with his mug shot printed on it. The orange T-shirt featured the man’s mug shot from a June arrest along with the words “Sponsored by Bud Light and Somerset County Sheriff.” The man, 19-year-old Bobby Burt of Pittsfield, served a 48-hour sentence for drunken driving. Sean Maguire, the jail’s compliance manager, said there’s not a policy on what inmates can or can’t wear for booking photos.

Multitasking mom gives birth while registering son for pre-K

A multitasking mom gave birth Thursday while registering her 4-year-old son for pre-K. The Texas mom, Vanessa DeLeon, was in the advanced stages of labor but thought she had time to stop and register her son at a Houston-area school en route to the hospital. According to KHOU-TV in Houston, a police officer and a school nurse on the second day of her new job helped DeLeon deliver her fourth child. The mother and newborn were transferred to the hospital and are doing well. DeLeon said she “can’t believe I’m one of those ladies that has a baby at one of those weird, random places.”

Woman steals wine to see boyfriend in jail

The price of love for one Texas woman? A $3.99 bottle of wine. The woman, Alicia Walicke of Cedar Park, allegedly stole the wine to get arrested so she could see her jailed boyfriend. Police charged her with misdemeanor theft and she was freed on $5,000 bond Friday. An arrest affidavit says she told police she wanted to see her boyfriend, who was arrested hours earlier, and told them she wanted to go to jail.

Massachusetts to drivers: “Wear Yah Seatbelt”

Massachusetts will soon encourage its drivers to “Make yah Ma proud, wear yah seatbelt.” The Massachusetts Department of Transportation hosted a contest for humorous and important driver safety messages, and announced the winners last Thursday. The other catchy, winning messages were: “Keep Calm and Drive On,” to prevent road rage; and “Put down the phone! Your LOLs and OMGs can wait,” to fight distracted driving. The idea came from a message posted in May that told drivers to “Use Yah Blinkah” when changing lanes. “With the ‘Use Yah Blinkah’ sign, we got people’s attention,” said Highway Administrator Frank DePaola. “By changing the routine messages, we hope to bring a new light to important public safety messages that sometimes may be overlooked.” The winning words will be displayed on electronic highway message boards during busy travel periods in the coming months.
