I-95 collapses in Philadelphia

Transportation officials on Sunday closed a two-mile stretch of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia after a fuel tanker truck caught on fire under an overpass. The northbound lanes directly above the fire collapsed, and Transportation Department spokesperson Brad Rudolph said heat from the fire damaged the southbound lanes. Authorities did not report any injuries.

How long will it take to clean up the mess? Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management Director Dominick Mireles said heavy construction equipment would be needed to remove thousands of tons of steel and concrete from the site. Transportation officials said drivers should expect closures and delays but did not give a timeframe for reopening the highway.
