Hong Kong shutters another news outlet
The website of the pro-democracy Stand News shut down Wednesday after an early morning raid on the media organization’s office. Stand News said in a statement it had dismissed all employees and would no longer update its website or social media. Officials also froze the company’s assets. Stand News was one of the last remaining pro-democracy outlets in Hong Kong after authorities similarly shut down the Apple Daily newspaper in June. Last week, Hong Kong university campuses removed sculptures and other artwork that memorialized victims of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.
