Hezbollah handheld radios detonate in new, second-wave attack

Handheld radios used by members of Hezbollah detonated Wednesday in Beirut and across Lebanon’s southern border, according to multiple media outlets. That incident occurred less than 24 hours after pagers exploded across the region on Tuesday. At least 12 people were killed and 2,800 injured in Tuesday’s initial attack. At least 20 people were killed and more than 450 were wounded in the second attack, according to the Lebanese health ministry.

During Wednesday’s incident, multiple explosions went off at the site of a funeral for three members of Hezbollah, as well as a child, all of whom were killed in Tuesday’s pager explosions, according to the Associated Press. Video posted to social media appears to have captured an explosion at the funeral. It records a loud bang, the sight of smoke, then screams and cries as members of the funeral procession scatter in all directions.

Other unverified videos of the second-wave attacks emerged, apparently showing flames coming from buildings and burnt-out vehicles.
