Hezbollah appoints new leader
The terrorist organization’s leadership council on Tuesday elected Naim Qassem to be Hezbollah’s new secretary-general, according to an online statement from the group. Qassem takes the place of Sayyad Hasan Nasrallah, who served in the position until the Israeli military killed him in an airstrike in Beirut.
Did the organization say why they picked Qassem? The council said it appointed him due to his zeal for Islam and his dedication to Hezbollah’s goals. The organization seeks to drive Israel out of all the disputed areas caught between Lebanon, Israel, and Syria, according to the U.S. Congressional Research Service.
