Hermine drenches Southeast

A large number of homes in the Florida panhandle are without power after Hurricane Hermine, which made landfall as a Category 1 storm, swept through overnight. The storm damaged roads and trees, but few injuries were reported. A homeless man in Ocala died when a tree fell on his tent. Forecasters downgraded Hermine to a tropical storm as it moved through Florida and into Georgia and the Carolinas early this morning. Heavy rainfall and floods remain the biggest threat to those in the storm’s path.
