Hamas frees dozens of hostages during cease-fire

On Sunday, a 4-year-old American citizen was among a third group of hostages released by the terror group Hamas. U.S. President Joe Biden said the little girl spent her latest birthday in captivity two days before. She was among about 240 people captured by Hamas during its attack on Israel on Oct. 7. A cease-fire agreement made last week calls for the release of 50 Israeli hostages and 150 Palestinian prisoners. The last scheduled prisoner-hostage swap is expected to occur on Monday.

Will the truce be extended? Hamas has indicated it wants to continue the cease-fire. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would consider it if Hamas released 10 hostages per day. Once the truce expires, Netanyahu said, Israel will resume its efforts to defeat Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
