Gymnastics doctor sentenced in sexual assault case
A Michigan judge on Wednesday sentenced sports doctor Larry Nassar to 40 to 175 years in prison for sexually assaulting gymnasts and other young women and girls. Nassar, 54, worked at Michigan State University and for USA Gymnastics, which trains Olympians. He pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting seven females in the Lansing, Mich., area between 1998 and 2015, but the seven-day hearing brought over 150 victims or their families to court to testify. “I just signed your death warrant,” Judge Rosemarie Aquilina told Nassar on Wednesday, noting the doctor will “be in darkness the rest of his life.” Nassar also faces a 60-year prison sentence for child pornography crimes.
