Globe Trot: Syria's chemical weapons shell game

SYRIA: An elite Syrian military unit is scattering Syria’s stores of chemical weapons, making them harder to track.

"U.S. and Israeli intelligence agencies still believe they know where most of the Syrian regime’s chemical weapons are located, but with less confidence than six months ago, U.S. officials said."

But wait: The U.S. doesn’t plan to bomb chemical weapons sites directly anyway. That could disperse poison agents and put civilians at risk.

GERMANY: Authorities have seized four children and removed them from their family home for violating Germany’s law against homeschooling. Armed police officers and 20 social workers and special agents forcibly removed the children—ages 7 to 14—from the home of Dirk and Petra Wunderlich. Read this.

INDIA: About 37 million more men than women make up the current population, the result of millions of baby girls being drowned, strangled, or aborted. “We are dealing with a sex selection that has become a genocide,” said Sabu George

THE VICAR OF BAGHDAD was in Nashville recently. “We’ve been bombed, blown up, and slaughtered. … I’ve had 1,226 in my own congregation killed. My church is the happiest church I’ve ever had,” said Canon Andrew White.

COPTIC Bishop Thomas talks about violence against Christians in Egypt: “The Coptic church is training people to see the situation from different perspectives, we teach them the difference between autocracy and democracy, and the meaning of a civil state. We are working against both a religious—and a marshal state.”

SYRIA: The government was behind mass killings and summary executions earlier this year that left at least 248 dead, says Human Rights Watch.

LIBYA: CIA director John Brennan has agreed in a letter this week to let Benghazi survivors speak, but no such assurances have come from the U.S. State Department. House hearings resume next week with more questions than answers, one year after the attack.
