Globe Trot: Osama bin Laden's treasure trove of documents
OBL: Among the trove of documents from Osama bin Laden declassified this week was an application for joining al Qaeda.
IRELAND: Polls are open today for a referendum on amending the Irish constitution to legalize same-sex marriage.
NIGERIA: The International Committee of the Red Cross said Boko Haram attacks are causing “one of the most serious crises in Africa.” Since 2009, more than 15,000 have died and 1.5 million have been chased from their homes as a result of the Islamic group’s rampage.
SYRIA: The Assyrian Monitor for Human Rights is reporting the kidnapping of Jacob Murad, a priest who heads Mar Elian monastery near Homs and also heads the Catholic Monastery of Monks in Syria. Presumably he’s been abducted by rebel or ISIS-affiliated groups, but there’s no confirmation of that.
ISIS: U.S. President Barack Obama started tweeting this week, and singer Cher turned 69. She spoke for many questioning America’s inability to stop ISIS, tweeting her frustration to him.
