Globe Trot: Germany's Muslim migrants converting to Christianity 'in droves'
GERMANY: Mohammed is now Martin—no longer Muslim, but Christian—as migrant asylum-seekers in some parts of Europe are converting from Islam to Christianity in droves.
STATE DEPARTMENT: In the United States, meanwhile, the Obama administration has made clear American churches will not get their chance to minister to war refugees on their own turf: “This administration will not issue visas for Syrians based on Christian faith.” That official suggested Syrian Christians threatened by ISIS use “people traffickers” to get themselves out of Syria and into the UN refugee system.
TURKEY: New, more widespread death threats are reaching the Christian community as the Islamic State’s influence extends into Turkey: “Perverted infidels, the time that we will strike your necks is soon. May Allah receive the glory and praise.”
NIGERIA: The toll of Islamic-led violence in northern Nigeria this week looks like this (and I’m not sure it’s a full report):
Monday—56 killed in Borno State Tuesday—33 killled in Kaduna State, 2 killed in Plateau State Wednesday—26 killed and more injured when Boko Haram fighters attacked on horses Thursday—Gunmen shot a village head in Borno State, sending him to the hospitalGUATEMALA: President Otto Pérez Molina resigned Thursday amid an anti-corruption probe, and a judge ordered him to jail in Guatemala City. The extent of public outcry against longstanding corruption is a new development, but some factions want to use it to shred the constitution and manipulate Sept. 6 elections.
AUSTRALIA: Chris the sheep has set a new world record in wool—88 pounds sheered in one go (photos a must-see)—handing the record back to Australia from New Zealand in an apparently old and pitched battle for state supremacy.
