Globe Trot: Christian refugees in Germany report death threats
GERMANY: A survey of Christian refugees in Germany reveals most are persecuted both at the hands of fellow refugees and security staff and others in Europe. The report by Open Doors surveyed 231 refugees mostly from Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, and elsewhere—more than two-thirds of whom are Muslim converts to Christianity. Death threats were reported by 73 respondents, and officials with Open Doors said they believe the results are only the “tip of the iceberg” because many Christian refugees said they were too afraid to participate.
UNITED STATES: Law enforcement officials estimate roughly 250 Americans have tried to join Islamic State (ISIS), but most never left the United States, raising fears of more homegrown attacks. But from a thumb drive of ISIS “personnel files,” NBC has profiled a dozen Americans who pursued the group overseas.
From Nabeel Qureshi’s Answering Jihad:
“Muslims who study the canonical texts [of Islam] carefully will ultimately be faced with the inescapable conclusion that their foundations are quite violent, which is exactly what happened to me. I fought the conclusion for years, but when the reality became unavoidable, I was faced with a three-pronged fork in the road and had to choose apostasy, apathy, or radicalization.”
UGANDA’s top export—surpassing coffee beans—is mercenaries. (Interestingly, Ugandans provide security at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.)
IRAQ: This month, Kurdish officials commemorated with Iraqis of Jewish descent—for the first time—Holocaust Remembrance Day. Recent reports suggested there were six—maybe now five—Jews remaining in Iraq, all living in Baghdad and all but two elderly. But in the North, the Kurdistan Regional Government recently appointed a representative for Jewish Affairs to raise the profile of Kurdish Jews long living in hiding.
