Girl, 9, recovered after New York state kidnapping

New York State police found a 9-year-old girl Monday evening, more than 24 hours after she was kidnapped during a camping trip. Charlotte Sena was abducted while riding her bike in Moreau Lake State Park, north of Albany, N.Y. The suspect, Craig Nelson Ross, Jr., is in custody, police said Tuesday.

How did the police find her? The police watched Ross, 47, leave a ransom note in the Sena’s mailbox early Monday morning, said Gov. Kathy Hochul. A fingerprint from the note identified Ross, and the police raided his camper later that day. Sena was found in a nearby cabinet. She appeared to be unharmed, Hochul said.
