Ginsburg admits Trump comments ‘ill-advised’
Several days after unapologetically reiterating her criticism of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg admitted she should not have shared her beliefs so freely. “On reflection, my recent remarks in response to press inquiries were ill-advised, and I regret making them,” the 83-year-old justice said today. More than a week after the first reports of Ginsburg’s comments surfaced, legal scholars continued to denounce them as improper for a member of the nation’s highest court. Many said Ginsburg’s disdain for Trump would jeopardize any ruling the court might be called on to make in the upcoming presidential contest. Ginsburg is known for her candor and her liberal politics, so what she said wasn’t as surprising as the fact that she said it to a reporter.
