French police: Algerian man behind attack on officers

French authorities on Thursday identified the man who injured six soldiers in a Wednesday car attack as a 37-year-old Algerian. French daily newspaper, Le Parisien, identified the attacker as Hamou Benlatreche and said he lived in Bezons, a suburb in northwestern France. The attacker rammed a BMW into a crowd of French soldiers in Levallois-Perreton on Wednesday morning. Security officials shot him five times before they could arrest him on a highway in northern France. He remains hospitalized. Benlatreche had a record of petty crimes, but authorities are still investigating the motivation behind the Wednesday attack. French police on Wednesday searched his home for any connection to terrorist organizations.
