Four toddlers, two adults injured in knife attack in French town

French police on Thursday arrested a 31-year-old Syrian man who they said attacked people with a knife Thursday in the Alpine town of Annecy. The attacker injured two adults and four young children in a children’s play park before police shot him in the legs to apprehend him. All of the children are under the age of four. At least two of the children sustained life-threatening injuries, police said. One of the victims is British, and another is Dutch.

What do we know about the attacker? The attacker’s name was not immediately available Thursday. The attacker has refugee status in Sweden and has no known connections to Islamist terrorist groups, police said. Annecy Mayor François Astorg said authorities were investigating the attacker’s motive.
