Former NFL coach Dennis Green dies of cardiac arrest
Dennis Green, who coached the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals, has died at age 67. “His family was by his side and he fought hard,” said a statement released by the family and posted on the Cardinals’ website. Arizona team officials said Green died of a heart attack. Green spent 10 seasons in Minnesota (1992–2001), where he led the Vikings to eight playoff appearances and two NFC championship games. He coached the Cardinals with less success from 2004 to 2006. “Denny made his mark in ways far beyond being an outstanding football coach,” a statement from the Vikings read. “His tenure as one of the first African-American head coaches in both college and the NFL was … transformative.” Before heading to the pros, Green coached at Northwestern and Stanford universities.
