Former first lady of Honduras announces presidential run
Former first lady Ana García de Hernández announced on Tuesday that she would run for president of Honduras. Her husband, Juan Orlando Hernández, served as president from 2014 to 2022. A jury in New York earlier this month convicted Juan Orlando Hernández of three federal charges. One of the charges in the Justice Department’s indictment alleged he conspired to traffic cocaine into the United States, and the other two pertained to his possession of and conspiracy to possess machine guns.
Why is she running for president? In a social media post announcing her campaign, Ana García de Hernández said it was a “fight against injustice and in search of justice for the Honduran people.”
