Forecasters predict a foot of snow for upper Midwest

A winter storm sweeping across the upper Midwest could dump as much as a foot of snow over Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan by Friday night. Parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ohio also expect heavy snowfall. The storm prompted nearly 800 flight cancellations at Chicago’s O’Hare International and Midway airports. As conditions on the roadways deteriorated, officials closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Ann Arbor, Mich., after a multi-vehicle pileup. Government offices and schools across the region closed. In Chicago, officials gave the city’s 390,000 students a snow day.
