Florida begins recovery; Idalia grazes Carolinas

Residents of areas hit by Hurricane Idalia assessed damages Thursday from flooding, high winds, and rains. Floridians picked up fallen tree branches and other debris, and power companies worked on restoring electricity. The storm left at least one person dead in Georgia. Two more died in weather-related traffic incidents in Florida.

How did the storm affect the Carolinas? The National Weather Service placed parts of the Carolinas’ eastern coasts under tropical storm warnings early on Thursday. The storm flooded beaches and knocked out power in some areas of North and South Carolina as it slid along the East Coast, up through the Atlantic Ocean.
