Flash floods kill at least five in West Virginia

Gov. Patrick Morrisey on Sunday evening said that five people had died and three others were missing after heavy rains. Between three and four inches of rain fell in parts of Ohio County within a half hour Saturday night. Flash flooding damaged roads, bridges, homes, and other infrastructure, according to local officials. Morrisey declared a state of emergency and mobilized the National Guard to help with search and rescue operations.

What about flooding in other parts of the country? Thirteen people died in San Antonio late last week after heavy rain triggered flash floods. Between three and eight inches of rain fell in three hours across five counties, according to city officials. The floods washed more than a dozen vehicles into a creek. The San Antonio Fire Department on Saturday said its crews recovered every person that was reported missing.
