Flash floods kill nearly 200 in Pakistan, Kashmir

Pakistani officials reported Friday that at least 194 people died during flash flooding and mudslides triggered by monsoon rains. The devastation spread across northern Pakistan and India-controlled Kashmir, with most deaths confined to the mountainous province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in northern Pakistan. Footage showed buildings washing away in the flood currents and residents taking to roofs for safety. Search and rescue teams have been dispatched, with one rescue helicopter crashing in the severe weather.

What’s happening in Kashmir? Search and rescue is also underway there after flooding killed at least 60 people and left about 200 more missing. At least 300 people were rescued from the sudden floods on Thursday, and dozens more were left seriously injured.
