Fighting for the Philippines

Filipino boxer and congressman Manny Pacquiao will dedicate his Nov. 24 fight to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which killed more than 2,000 people in the boxer’s homeland. Pacquiao, who has been training in an area of the Philippines that fared well in the storm, hopes his fight against Brandon Rios in Macau, China, will provide hope to those suffering from the typhoon’s devastation.

“I really want to visit the area and personally do what I can to help our countrymen who have suffered so much in this terrible tragedy,” said Pacquiao, “but I’m in deep training for a crucial fight so I regret I cannot go.”

After losing his last two fights, Pacquiao, who hopes to prove himself against the American fighter. If he fails to perform well against Rios, he may consider retirement, according to his trainer.
