Feds share Minneapolis shooting evidence with local officials

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison on Monday said that it should not have taken federal officials roughly six months to share evidence related to the shootings with local law enforcement. Earlier this year, federal immigration enforcement agents killed Alex Pretti and Renee Good and injured another individual, Julio Sosa-Celis, in separate shootings while they were looking to find, detain, and deport illegal immigrants in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Both Good and Pretti were U.S. citizens. Julio Sosa-Celis was an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, per a statement from the Department of Homeland Security earlier this year.

Didn’t another ICE shooting happen Monday? U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel shot and killed a motorist near Biddeford, Maine, on Monday. The deceased—who was the target of the immigration enforcement operation—allegedly tried to use his vehicle as a weapon against federal agents, according to Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, who said he spoke with Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin about the incident. Gov. Janet Mills said Maine State Police and other local officials were cooperating with federal agents on the investigation into the incident. ICE personnel also killed an accused illegal immigrant in Houston just days ago.

Has ICE released a statement on the shooting? ICE told WORLD Monday evening that at 7 a.m., some of their agents arrived at the last known residence of an illegal immigrant with final orders of removal. During the incident, an illegal immigrant left the residence in a motor vehicle and tried to flee the scene despite agents attempting to stop the vehicle, ICE said.

“Fearing for public safety an officer discharged his weapon,” ICE said in the statement. Agents immediately contacted emergency services, but the individual died of his or her injuries. Local and state police were investigating the incident, and DHS’s Office of the Inspector General was also investigating the incident as it did every instance where an agent discharged their firearm, ICE added.
