FBI “failed to uphold” its mission in Russia investigation
Special counsel John Durham concluded that the FBI relied too much on unconfirmed intelligence during its investigation into whether former President Donald Trump colluded with Russia to interfere with the 2016 election. Durham’s roughly 300-page report, released to the public on Monday, criticized the FBI for opening an investigation into the allegations more quickly than normal. The report also claimed that confirmation bias plagued agents involved in the probe.
What does the FBI have to say? The FBI on Monday said that it had taken dozens of corrective actions that, if implemented at the time, would have ensured the “missteps” Durham’s report pointed out could have been prevented. Trump said the report showed U.S. voters had been “scammed.”
