Agents arrested a man on Wednesday suspected of crashing his car earlier that morning into the gate of the FBI’s Pittsburgh office. Assistant special agent in charge of the Pittsburgh office, Christopher Giordano, told ABC News that the ramming was a targeted act of terror. The suspect, Donald Henson, intentionally crashed into the gate just before 3 a.m. local time, Giordano said. He got out of the car, pulled an American flag from the back seat, and threw the flag on the gate before fleeing the scene on foot, Giordano added. The FBI caught Henson hours later, according to an update released just before noon.
What motivated this attack? Henson suffered from a mental health problem and experienced mental health issues in the past, Giordano said. Henson visited the Pittsburgh office weeks before the incident and submitted a complaint that didn’t make much sense, Giordano added. Agents looked into Henson’s complaint and told him that they found no chargeable federal offense. Officials planned to prosecute Henson to the fullest extent of the law, he said.
