FBI agents search ship that struck Baltimore bridge

Federal agents are conducting a court-approved search of the Dali container ship that struck the bridge in the Port of Baltimore, the Federal Bureau of Investigation told WORLD on Monday. Late last month, the container ship crashed into a supporting column of the bridge on its way to Sri Lanka. Six members of a road crew allegedly died as the bridge collapsed. Divers have only found three of their bodies.

The FBI has begun a criminal investigation into the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, according to reports Monday by the Associated Press and The Washington Post.

Are any local investigations ongoing? The city is working with two law firms to bring legal action against those responsible for the wreck, Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott said in a statement. The city of Baltimore has also released an action plan to support the loved ones of those who lost their lives and other people affected by the destruction of the bridge.

What is the city doing to help these people? The city set up a wage subsidy program to help small businesses near the port pay their employees. It has also established another program to help provide monetary assistance to workers directly. All the while, the city is working to reopen the Port of Baltimore.
