Family of man killed by police to receive $3 million

The family of Philando Castile, an African-American driver shot and killed by police in Minnesota last year, has reached a $3 million settlement in his death. Officer Jeronimo Yanez with the city of St. Anthony shot Castile during a July 6 traffic stop after Castile told Yanez he was armed. Castile had a permit for his gun. His girlfriend, who was in the car with her 4-year-old daughter, livestreamed the events right after the shooting on Facebook. A jury acquitted Yanez of manslaughter and other charges earlier this month. St. Anthony will pay the settlement to Castile’s mother, Valerie Castile, to avoid a federal wrongful death lawsuit, according to attorneys in the case.
