Faculty member killed in UNC shooting

Authorities on Monday said that a suspect was in custody after a shooting at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  At about 1 p.m., the campus ordered students to shelter in place. Roughly three hours later, the school issued an all-clear announcement. A faculty member was  shot to death in the science building in the middle of  campus, officials said later.  Police on Tuesday morning were reportedly searching for the weapon used in the shooting and investigating the motive of their suspect.

What led up to the shooting? Police have not yet released the identities of the victims or the suspect, although authorities did release a photo of a person of interest earlier in the afternoon. It is unclear whether the two individuals knew each other or what might have motivated the shooting. The school has a student body of 32,000 students and thousands more faculty and staff.
