Explosion levels Arlington home as police try to serve warrant

Authorities responded Monday to the duplex in the suburb near Washington, D.C., after reports that a suspect fired a flare gun dozens of times from inside the home. Police on Tuesday identified the suspect as James Yoo, 56, and said that he shot at officers from inside the home before it exploded at around 8 p.m. No officers were seriously injured. Yoo is presumed to have died, said Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn.

Did the blast damage other properties? Officials evacuated an unspecified number of homes after the blast, said Arlington Fire Department Captain Nate Hiner. The fire department had the majority of the blaze under control by about 10:30 p.m. Authorities did not say if the fire spread to other properties. The FBI was assisting local police in the investigation.
