Electoral commission shake-up in Kenya

Kenya’s electoral commission on Wednesday announced it had changed some of its top personnel in preparation for a redo of the presidential election next month. Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati said in a statement that six new officials have been appointed to lead the election. The move comes after the Kenyan Supreme Court on Friday nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reelection, ruling in favor of a petition filed by opposition leader Raila Odinga, who argued last month’s election was hacked in favor of Kenyatta and called for reforms within the commission before the new election slated for Oct. 17.
